Hey everyone. Now before I start this review I want to clarify one thing that clearly the people who make YouTube videos can’t tell the difference between a pay to win game and a free to play game. Warframe is completely free to play there is no pay to win period, yes the game has a store where you spend real money but the items you buy vary between new warframes, ingredients to build blue prints, different color pallets for your character, or alternate helmets so before you let anyone sink in your head that the game is pay to win try it out and see for yourself that it’s not.
Now on November 20th 2018 digital extremes warframe released for the nintendo switch which added another free to play title to nintendos library and one with an amazing history. Now for anyone who has never heard of warframe you play as a space ninja called the Tenno to restore peace to the universe and boy is it a big universe.
Along your journey you face different enemies. The biggest threat coming from a race called the grineer which are basically humans who use a very thick armor that makes them look almost robotic and there are a few grineer crews who are actual robots who can take a punch and dish it out as well.
The second enemy you encounter are the corpus they look like suited up welders or machinists and they have small robot walkers and a shield drone that is the biggest pain out of there arsenal considering most of them are melee fighters.
The third enemy race is called the infected and I’m sure by the name you can tell what they are mindless infected creatures that attack and like to swarm you, best recommendation is melee attacks and your special ability.
Warframe for being a free to play game has a lot of places to visit doing different missions on each planet, the map is of the solar system plus a few extras one being the void another is a planet called phobos and sedna and recently they added to big areas to the game that are open world and let you do lots of exploring and other activities. One being fishing so go prove your a master fisherman and catch the big one.
Now warframe has been around for a few years releasing on PC first and now in 2018 the game has been ported to switch and it’s a great port I play all my games in handheld and you truly can’t see any frame issues. They hold up really well compared to other consoles. There’s also docked mode for the switch which let’s you play the game in it’s full 1080p glory but I’m sure many people use handheld more and I for one don’t complain. The small list of issues I have come across I feel is more due to the network side of the switch then the game itself.
Since the switch doesn’t have an actual ethernet connection it relies on wifi connection having the ability to connect to both the 2.4 ghz channel and if your router is able to the 5 ghz channel. You’re switch has a healthy choice of wifi but with a game like warframe that is heavily dependent on a connection it will boggle in certain areas. I’ve noticed mainly in loading screens I’ve had my game slow and stutter and on the boss fight against the jackal I’ve had the game take a while to load up the boss animation so the fight can start. I’m not sure if this is an issue on nintendos side or digital extremes side but I do hope there’s a way to help this out with updates or maybe maintenance. I run my switch on the 5 ghz connection so it offers the least interference but anything could be the issue. Let me know if you have had any issues with slow loading. One small issue I also have I think has to do with the joy sticks themselves I feel when I play in handheld and I’m aiming down sights or doing anything with my range weaponry the movement is super stiff and I do have a hard time getting pin point targeting as compared to mashing the A button for melee. I’m not sure if it’s a design problem I’m sure nintendo didn’t expect to have shooters on the switch so maybe the stiffness is meant to favor RPG games but then again they have splatoon which I have yet to try out let me know your thoughts if you have had similar issues.
The port is brilliant giving nintendo players lots to do as they save the universe on the go which is the advantage the switch offers players being able to take the console anywhere they want to play to show off the games to both friends and family and I for one recommend trying out this port if your looking for something new to play. That’s all for this review I hope you enjoyed. Jave a great day and take care.
Agreed, game is definitely NOT pay to win. You can freely play this game and move ahead without ever purchasing anything. Well written bro.
